Rinse the clams well and discard any that are already open or damaged.

Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Reserve a little pasta water.

Meanwhile, warm the olive oil with the sliced garlic and chili flakes for 1 minute, taking care not to let the garlic brown.

Add the clams and white wine. Cover and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, just until the shells open. Discard any that stay shut.

Add the drained spaghetti to the pan with the parsley, lemon zest, and a splash of pasta water if needed. Toss briskly so the pasta absorbs the briny juices, then serve at once.
