Croque-Monsieur

    Preheat the oven to 220°C. Make the béchamel: melt butter, add flour, cook 1 minute, then whisk in milk. Add nutmeg, salt and pepper.

    Spread béchamel on 2 slices of bread. Place a slice of ham and grated Gruyère on each.

    Close with the remaining slices. Spread béchamel on top and sprinkle with Gruyère.

    Bake for 8–10 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbling.
